This might be a dumb question but i'm toying with the idea of putting my big tank in the wall when I get it. The question I have is if I have the tank on a steel stand how do you drywall and plaster in front of it since there would be no studs? Do you use a thin sheet of wood on the front to attach the drywall to or just place one across the front? Hopefully this makes sense what I'm asking. I know the tank will be recessed in the wall the thickness of the drywall...just trying to figure out how to finish off the front of it. Thanks!

Could you glue the drywall directly to the steel? Or perhaps have the tank behind the studs and the wall framed up like a window with a small windowsil around the front of the tank?

Yeah I could always frame it in with a window sill of sorts...I think that might be my best option. The tank will be 10' long so I couldn't bridge it across to another stud like I could with a shorter tank.

I suppose instead of framing the area in front of the tank with 2x4's I could always just use 1x1's to bring the tank closer to the wall...that way I wouldn't have such a large inset into the wall...maybe round the opening in the drywall/plaster around the tank to give it a nicer look.
