Ive owned 2 silver aros before, they always swam left and right and used the WHOLE the tank constantly and very active. They were also very timid/scared when others approached the tank. very similar in characteristics..but..

My latest baby silver is 8-9in long very healthy, bright colors and very calm! Sometimes to calm!? It loves people by the tank and will not swim away from any disturbances outside the tank. When he sees me it goes straight to the front of the glass. Its always lingering the calm side of the tank furthest from the filter/air bubbles. It does get a bit more active when the light is off But is it normal for an aro this young to be this calm and inactive? Will he become more active as it grows? He has the whole tank to himself besides a 4-5in algae eater that only stays under a rock. I don't want to add any tank mates bc of previous experiances (last aros always ate or beat on other fish) but this fish seems really calm and seems likes he wants a tank mate!? almost like he's lonely haha

He looks very healthy water parameters is on point ph 7.2 / ammonia and nitrate at 0. This aro also loves pellets and only pellets!? He can eat them all day I tried to give him market shrimp and he just ignored it. Im trying to introduce him to a variety in his diet.

Background- I bought this aro around 6-7inches from a aquatic store. It was housed with 5 3in baby aros and other fishes aswell so its definitely use to a busy tank. He had scars on his body and scratches on his eye from what I can tell the huge rock that was in the tank. He was feed fish at times and I'm assuming as he would catch them scrape his body against this rock. Ive had him for 2-3 weeks now and he has healed up a lot!

What are your thoughts?

as of right now he's in a 2ft wide 4ft long 75 gal. He will be placed in a 220g tank or pond in the future though.

Im not taking anything away from this aro bc i hated how my others would jump and bang the glass frantically when others approached the tank. But it was nice seeing an active fish swim left and right instead of this very calm one that usually swims in a circle using half the tank only lol. almost like he just floats at the top. I guess it is a very shy and il let it grow out of it hopefully.

Do you think tank mates might make him more active? but then again i Honestly I wanted the aro to be the main focus, thats why I wanted to keep him solo.

i guess I can't complain bc there are kids that usually come to the house that approach the tanks and never does he swim frantically, jump, or bang the walls. He still minds his own business and swims in his spot. I have been feeding him as soon as guests leaves the house as an award for not freaking out hahah.
