my baby senegal literally sits around all day doing nothing. he has plenty of room in the tank to move around and hiding places. i turn the light off for 2 hours and he is still in the same spot when i check on him. ive been feeding him right and he eats, just takes a bit for him to sniff out the food. just wondering if he is getting lonely in their or something because from my research they are supposedly very active, but he is a couch potato. Do they become more active when they lose their gills? because he still has his and i havent seen him go up for air in awhile.

when i put my net in the tank and go near him with it he scurries off fast as ever, so he doesnt seem to be out of energy, maybe he just has no motivation.

here is a video of him. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-DjiCL98igg

the reason he isn't going up to get air is because of his external gills. He probably is going up for air but not nearly as many time as the polys without external lungs. It's because the external lungs are there to help collect air in the water while the swim bladder if forming.

Mine is fairly lazy as well. However mine goes on a rampage when it smells worms. Try live Nightcrawlers. Cut up to appropriate size of course, but that seems to really get my sen motivated

It's normal. Bichirs usually very lazy. Usually bichirs are SUPER inactive if you have hiding spots in the tank. My bichirs used to hide all day when i had plastic castles and other shenanigans in my tank. When i took the stuff out, my bichir became pretty active.
