Hey so I wanted to know if you had 2 fish from the same parents and if they breed if there would be any mutations due to inbreeding. Thank you

a very political question you raise.
no.

inbreeding was very common in royal families throughout history and they didn't have mutants.

lol I'm not talking about like people with 3 eyes and 6 arms i just wanted to know if there could be problems with health if fish from the same parents breed

i think you'd be more likely to see problems with parents and offspring breeding together, not so much siblings

not blowing this out of my butt when I was breeding dwarf ciichlids my fry almost always moved on to breed amongst eachother unless I wanted to introduce a different genetic line in hopes of getting different coloration. if you plant on breeding I wouldnt worry about it, but getting fish from a completely different line to breed with yours is rewarding

Good articles. My knowledge in genetic science is quite limited. Thank you.

It is pretty basic, but this is the way I always saw it. The more I bred a species that were related, my cull rate went up. Though I usually become more selective with a single species over time; even from one single pair of the same generation; I would notice an increase in percentage on each generation further from the parents. However, in a lot of cases, I would also get offspring that were much more brilliant in color and fin structure (sometimes even size) than the original parents. This is where I would usually introduce an outside line. Best I found is to swap with another breeder.

I also noticed, and don't know if anyone else has had the same observation, that some of the CA/SA cichlids seem to be more likely to reject a potential mate if it is a sibling. Basically, if I put a boy and a girl in a tank together, the probability of rejection (or assassination) was higher if related than if not siblings. Africans never seemed to care.

I have bred COnvict Cichlids from the same spawn..........I had a few come not so perfect, but the majority comes out fine.........

The problem comes after several generations. Selective breeding very commonly involves breeding siblings and back-crosses to parents.

One generation as is mentioned in this thread is not a problem at all. If this is something that you desire to do over and over, you would need to (in order to maintain good genetics) carry out about 5 lines of these fish separately from one another and then carefully track each line through a few generations before out-crossing.

In short- There will be no issue with what you propose to do.
