Inbreeding

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
They're still siblings, so it's inbreeding.

I would recommend against it unless there is a specific trait you have in mind, and you know what you're doing.

Can you breed a male and a female from two separate batches of the same parents? Or is that inbreeding and yeild poor gene pool?

I have seen many adult fish turn out fine from inbreeding.....Now if you are a seriuos breeder, and wish to get some healthy genes out their in the system, then definately buy from seperate sources........But if you are keeping the fish to yourself and using them as feeders, go ahead and breed away........

A lot of times when trying to pull out a certain trait, breeders will inbreed up to five generations, but after that you must outcross.

Inbreeding = yuck. But for stuff like Tetras lol you cant really blaming tell whose with who, they all look the damn same lol

Very simple it is inbreeding. Don't do it.

Its done all the time. For reptiles, specifically boas, pythons, corns, and others, Its the way that morphs are created. Albinism wasn't common at all years ago in any snake breed but after generations of inbreeding tbey are almost as common as normal patterns. This has been done in the reptile community for decades with minimal negative results.

It really all depends on the circumstances. And if its for feeders, who cares anyway? Its not like there gonna live long lives anyway, right?

^^ yeah feeders gonna end up dead either way so... they won't really be going to a beauty pagean lol
