Hello,

As the title says...Is there a way to increase the suction of the FX5?

I've added a spraybar to the output of my filter, and that has worked great, but it seems the FX5 doesnt suck enough.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Adding a spray bar increase the pressure of the output...BUT it decreases the actual flow.

So what do you mean by suction power?

The power of the input, it seems weak. Like its not pulling in enough waste

That is determined by the pump...and also the media you fill it with. If you don't want to mess with it, you can buy a couple of power heads and aim it at where debris tend to gather and blow it toward the intake. Beware though, this will further reduce the flow in the long run and increase your filter maintenance scheadule.

Thanks Ecoli. I have 2 Maxijet 1200's, 1 of the newer models and 1 of the older...along with the flow from the spraybar.

Should probably just take out that poop machine known as a common pleco :irked:

outside of the other factors, increased pressure at the output would also effect the intake.

opening up the output which might seem like less flow actually increases the overall turnover rate.

Would reducing the size at the intake make for a stronger intake flow? I know using my python that if I take off the large pick-up tube and just use the hose, I can pick up stuff the large tube isn't strong enough to get. You wouldn't want to reduce it too much and restrict the flow to the pump.
