Hey Gang,

Was wodnirn gif anyone has ever attmpted to increase the surfec area of an impellers Blades Slightly to increase GPH?

I was thinking of taking some measurements and trying to find some type of way to maybe slip something tightly over each blade with a bit of Super Glue Gel to further secure it?

So the pieces that I would use would be tight enough to hold themselves, but also using just a little tad of Glue to Ensure complete grip.

Anyone try this before?

Pretty sure this wouldn't work. I don't really know but my assumption is that if the pump motor is running at Xrpms with normal power and you did somehow increase the angle or depth or the blades so they were pushing more water, and were able to balance them well, it would increase resistance on the motor... increased resistance + same power = lower rpms = no net increase in flow. Could be wrong but i don't see it working.

Someone on youtube has a video of him putting an impeller from a eheim 2217 into a 2215. That's all I know of. I personally would not do this because it reduces your filters biological functionality

Also pretty unlikely to get a new propeller to be "balanced" enough to spin properly with add ons. Even underwater and with the propeller rod through it, it could go off kilter and just snap add ons off. You could make one on a 3/D printer or cast/mold a whole new piece but pretty good process just for a propeller. I've messed aroud with props alot when they break and i have to piece them together from other brand pumps. 9 times outta 10 whatever i come up with doesnt work. Its pretty hard to get anything but the original pieces to even spin let alone raise your gph.

There are certain pumps and wavemakers where the impellers can be swapped out to increase the output. In some cases the impeller is one of the main differences between the outputs of different models. This comes in handy in cases where you might want to be able to vary the output of a wavemaker depending on the stock of the tank.
