Just had a bit of a scare, to say the least.
I have a silver aro of about 9 inch that feeds well on cockles, muscles, prawn, salmon and pellets, now its just been feeding time for them and as always Aro`arnie loved his prawns, and this time as often i do i stuffed the piece of prawn ( 1/4 to 1/2inch ) with a pellet, nothing different, i then went to feed my rays and turned to see Aro`arnie curled up in a S shape on the bottom of the tank not moving but gills going very slowly, it only lasted long enough for me to bet a panic on, about 30 seconds, then he just went on as normal, didnt take any more food but swam along like nothing had happend.

Do you think it could of been something like indegestion, food getting stuck?

I dont know how skiddish your aro is... but sometimes mine gets a little skiddish sometimes and will actually do the mentioned action like you siad yours did... he will curl up at the bottom of the time and kinda gauge everything and then act like nothing ever happened... could have been that she didnt notice you coming up to the tank and kinda spooked her and she went in to a "hiding" spot then when she knew it was you she was ok... just a possibility...

Wayne..hi.. How Big is your aro? Do you feed full pieces or do you cut up the meat into smaller bite sized pieces.. smaller pieces are always better cos there will be no choking hazard..has the aro pooped? go for a couple of days without food if it is over 12" but if it still a smaller aro reduce the amount you feed for the next few days..

haha wow rough stuff, my 14 inch or ate some floating carnis then jumped out when i was cleaned and when i wrestled him down and put him back in, he threw up everything right away, it was hilarious, smaller sized food would help, mine eats blood worms and freeze dried krill likek its his job

really? you think that your aro jumping out and then throwing up is hilarious... i think not... thats never never a good thing....

Thanks for the replys.

It is possible that he got spooked but, although i didnt move from the side of the tank where i was feeding them, he isnt realy that skittish at all, only when lights go out and you move in front of the tank.

I was worse as when he went on the bottom it wasnt in his usual spot and he lay on his side, he is still fine this morning thank god.

My god, that would be far from funny to me, i panicked when Aro`arnie just curled up for seconds,

As in the OP i feed small peices of food and when he has had maybe 3, a full prawn he stops feeding, and he is around 9n inch long.

I think now that it could of been food stuck as he ate 2 peices farly quickly one after the other.

Anyway stress over, i can now concertrate on my new cichlids and get them fattend up:headbang2
