Lately I have been adding a couple Indian Almond (Katappa) leaves to my tanks. I get them from a lady in Singapore.
They are reported to have antibacterial properties. They also stain the water a little with the tannins they release . It makes the tank look like a very natural environment.
I recently picked up a small Jardini arowana with some torn fins and NO chin barbels. He healed up very nicely in a few days. In about two weeks his chin barbels were back completely. I suppose he may have healed just as quickly in a clean tank without the almond leaves, but I am beginning to think they work.
Has anyone else heard of or tried using these leaves?
