Indian Mahseer ID Thread

It is very difficult to identify the many species of Indian Mahseer due to rarity of them in the hobby.
This is my attempt to define a few. Pictures are from MFK member Seiichi Hamada and the internet.
I'm going by past posted info so if they are wrong I hope Wes (Rare Fish) can provide feedback and correction.

TOR MUSSULLAH - Silver Mahseer, High Backed Mahseer, Hump Backed Mahseer, Southern Mahseer

So the mosal hasn't been officially described yet? The differences between the mosal and putitora are very evident. It's nice to see how mussullah juvies look.

the first picture of the tor mussulah is not that of a mussulah, but probably tor tor. The names have not been revised, and each time I get these from different rivers they all vary a little bit. I have received 2 pieces of mussulah in the past, and when you see it, its very obvious high back, with almost a upturned mouth, and a big scales.

Here is what was imported as Tor mussulah from India, you can see the big scales, almost upturned lip with thick lips, and high body, just like that of an adult one.

Thanks for clarifying but that mussullah is just wow! I can see what you're talking about. That's a cool mahseer collection whoever that belongs to.

Good initiative on this, Ken. If you and Wes could do some work on this and actually write up some descriptions for each species, I'd be happy to go back and edit the OP and make this a sticky.

Haha...I don't know enough or have the time to do the research. I cheated and grabbed what was already on the forum. I'm glad Wes corrected the error and provided explanation. I know Wes questioned the ID of this pic when Seiichi first posted it years ago. Now I clearly see the difference.
Rob, I would greatly appreciate if you could edit so others won't get mislead. Feel free to run with it like all the great stickies you created.
