I got a text from a friend the other day. Along the lines of 'let's go to India'. Got home from work and booked a flight...

So now I'm off to India and Nepal for 2 months later in the year!

Any advice?

Check the CDC website for travel to India. You will want to be up on your vaccines.

Thanks :) I'm super excited!

Basically we fly into Kolkata, and then a little over 2 months later, we fly out of Kathmandu! The people I'm travelling with really want to see a lot of the North. Although someone I know just returned from India said the North wasn't that great. A lot of poverty, gender inequality etc. She said the south was INCREDIBLE!

Personally I'm not one for historical sites; I prefer rainforests, rivers etc. One place I'd love to go is Cherrapunji? Is it easy to get there?[h=3][/h]

When are u travelling? Depending on that you should make ur plans.

Cherrapunji will be very close to where you land in Kolkata. But I am not so sure of travelling to Assam would be safe due to Maoists activities in that region. I can check for you about the travels to that place through one of my close friend and one of the biggest exporter of Indian native fishes(especially Channas), Mr. Andrew Rao. He is based out of Kolkata. You can add him up in Facebook and have a chat with him too.

I am from the south and I know what your friend exactly meant. People in the south are warm hearted folks. And the nature gives you everything you need except for snow and huge mountains which are the main attractions of the valleys in the north. Go to Himachal in the north, you will love the valleys there. They have the deep forests and river valleys there. Even Kashmir is very much accessible nowadays.
