Hi all

How long did it take your red arowana to eat food?!?!

I have a rtg and it took him less than a week before he started eating pellet or prawns...

I know The local fish store I bough my red from fed them meal worms but I'm trying to stay away from live food.....he did try pellet and mp but he just spat it back out...

He is looking skinnier by the day.... his only about 7-8 inches long still a baby :(

He cost a bomb so don't want him to die!

Thanks all

Some Aros take a long time to get going and some Aros are inherently lousy eaters. I guess in this case you might have to take the plunge and get some meal worms or wait it out.

For example I had a red who took food within a few hours of being introduced to a new tank and maintained a voracious appetite throughout. Then there was a gold who consistently had a bad appetite and took a long time to start eating. Every Aro has its own idiosyncrasies.

Put it this way, you have a young Aro in a new environment and subjected to all kinds of stress..water chemistry etc. I would try to get the fish to take any food and get it going rather than choose this timing to try weaning and introducing something which is very foreign to it like pellets.

It's very much a waiting game and a test of will and patience. Only one winner - question is who breaks first.

B Bruce Fu ... I agree with what has been said

Some eat straight away others take time and sometimes even after they have settled and are eating like wolves you make changes to the tank... change any tank mates... anything different and they sulk and dont eat for a while

Yours is only a baby... her life comes first... get her eating mealworms if that is what it will take or maybe a cricket if you can get some
Once she is a little bigger, settled in and nice and fat you can have your contest of wills...

Have you tryed white frozen mosquito larva ?
They float at the surface.
Ore frozen fine krill.
I always had succes with it.
When he eats you can try different things.
As mentioned before the most important thing is that he eats.
Of course your water temparature and quallity has to be ok.

So I should give in on feeding pellets and try meal worms and other addicted food?
Guess the little one won this battle then..... lol
