Hey guys, I am reaching out to everyone to see if they have owned any of this strain of Oscar and see if they truly are that red or are they just pumped up with hormones and 6 months after owning them the just become plain old red Oscar ? I am super curious because I would love to get a pair. same goes for the Lemon Oscar. any insight will be greatly appreciated.

I just tagged her to see if she could answer your question since she’s the expert on Oscars.

From what I’ve seen, chili oscars maintain their color. It’s hit or miss with the lemons as they tend to turn orange if they are not from good stock

The Chil Reds that I've seen are legit...not seen any fade. I think they're a line strain that reproduces pretty consistently. Not aware of anyone coloring up Oscars although there were rumors of 'blueberry' Oscars at one time that obviously were a dye job. Thankfully that craze has disappeared. Certain foods can enhance ithe red a bit but its not like that's gonna make them red. I know they sell 'red' foods for flowerhorns and parrots. I've not noticed any real influence on my parrots. The reddest ones stay that way no matter what I feed them. If their mood is off they'll shift but that's it. But parrots are weird anyway.

If you wanna get a chili, get one. They'll often have white or cream color up top. The super reds are solid red including fins.

Just picked up this guy,

Kinda my ideal Oscar, prefer a pattern rather than full red.

I have been aware of the chili types for 12 years, these guys in India were breeding them way back when, only been in Aus for a few years.
