While looking up information on gars, I was introduced to arowana. Is it possible to keep the two together, at least temporarily, and I also was wondering if it would be possible to build an indoor arowana pond? I know that a good cover would be necessary to prevent the fish from jumping out, but is there any other crucial information necessary for an indoor pond? I have a new 20ft x 20ft piece of pond liner that I can use for the project, but I would also like to use part of it to make a small feeder fish pond and a small quarantine/water change pond; both would be part of the unit I would build that would contain the arowana pond.

Seems there are a few people that keep gars and arowana together. If you post the question in the gar forum most of the respectable members don't advise it. Myself I have never kept gar.

What kind of arowana are you thinking? Aros are jumpers, but less likely in a pond though a secure cover is still a good idea.

Heating and filtering the pond will take some doing, best to post questions on the indoor pond forum. Personally I wouldn't make the feeder/quarantine pond to share water with the main pond.

For ideas on ponds...check out the Pond forum...it has an outdoor and indoor section.

There are some great builds in there :)

You will have a better chance keeping multiple silvers together rather than the jardini.

go with silvers, the gar thing is sketchy as gars are hunters that are attracted to silvery fish that are active, hence gar aro tanks are usually avoided. check my signature pics of a build of basically exactly what you are planning.

I've got 6 gars with my aro's and they don't even look at each other. I also have multiple friends with the combo and have no problems. idea sounds fine, just build you a lid of some sort, be it solid or screen.

One of the local aquarium that i frequently visit has a 8x4x3 tank that keeps 2x 3 foot silver aro with 2x Alligator gar and they have been together for quite a while... one of the alligator gar is nearly 4 foot long.... its pretty cool sight cos they are just monsters and the tank is placed like 3 metres from the ground.....

cheers

Eric
