Heres my plan, the pool linked above, then im going to build a plywood and 2x4 stand around it for support and protection. I also want to fill the empty spots in the wood stand with some kind of insultation either blankets, or something else.
For filtration i was going to use the pump provided and have it empty into a drip systeme.
Im going to put down some kind of protection in the bottom of the pool, i was thinking styrofome is that safe?, so that any rocks or wood would not cut a hole in the bottom. Next im filling the bottom with sand, putting to cinder blocks in the middle then bogging out some cherry wood we have around the blocks, then from the middle ill add in caves and groups of rocks.
For lighting i was going to use two or three red lamps for heating, and then a shop light above the pool.
Im stumped on stocking, thinking of getting some oscars, and things that would go with them ????

get the metal framed version

metal framed version, and use fiberglass roll insulation for the shell.

. i spend $50 on 3 rolls of insulation for my pond, and the top is only covered by a tarp, yet the temp stays at a steady 81* with only 500w of heating on 1100g of water. proper insulation will go a VERY long way, and cut down on electricity

stocking....your going to be close to limitless if you got a decent sized pond. oscars will be able to live with most sa/ca cichlids, their amazing mixers. their usually very lazy so they get along well with less-aggressive fish, but they can also hold their own if need be with fish that have a bad attitude.
