I know dats are slow growers so I was thinking of putting them in a new 125. my question is how many? I've heard you either have one or several, but has anyone been able to keep a pair or is a trio best
thanks

honestly I would skip the 2 or 3 and I would have to say either 1 or at least 4.

I have a pair in my 90 for right now. They do well for the most part. There is a little chasing but nothing I see as something to worry about it is very minimal. They each have their own little area they like to hang out and the only time you see any chasing is if the smaller one tries to hang out in the other guys spot. I decided to try a pair because the place I got them from had had them together for a couple months so I thought that maybe since they were used to each other they would do ok. So far so good we'll see down the road if that changes.

i have a pair also... they seem to fight with eachother quite a bit when i had them in a smaller tank. Id recommend a decent sized tank and several points in the aquarium that they can claim as their own territory. Mine are in a 180 gallon with three large pieces of bog wood.

yes you can keep 2 easy if their is a big size diffrence

1 tiger of say 7inch and 1 tiger 2inch will work

If you're going to keep a pair i would go with T1 suggestion of size difference. Also, keep in mind NTT typically show the least aggression towards each other and Indos in a distant second when keeping a pair. I have noticed that indos under 1.5 inches show aggression towards each other at almost any number usually with a few dominant members of a group (just my observation). As they get larger the aggression usually seems to be limited to a select few rather than random acts of aggresion to all fish. Good luck

I agree, typically the aggression causes more stress than physical damage. I would start to get concerned if the aggressor is relentless overly stressing the other, or to the point where physical harm is noticeable.

Agreed...I have a 6" NGT in with my little guys and he totally ignores them.

I also prefer a lot of hidespots. The aggression is really reduced when they are not competing over a single cave or piece of driftwood. I would also say set up a lot of visual barriers, like tall plants, amazon swords...stuff like that.

Only tank I have that I keep only 2 Dats in has a 9.5" NTT and and 4.5" NTT. There is zero aggression between them. It also helps that Thin bars are the most timid of the Dat species.

The most agro tank I have contains 2AT's about 2" and 4 IT's at 3-3.5". And with 6 dats the aggression isn't bad at all.
