My P. Endli Endli got beat up by my P. Endli Congicus. This is my favorite fish, and now her tail fin is shredded. Some of it turned white, some of it turned red, some of it is gone. She typically relaxes all of her fins when she isn't swimming, but she's keeping everything erect and appears to be in pain. I'm going to start Melafix treatment ASAP, and raise water temp. I know it's also recommended to add salt to the water, but how much should I add for a 55g? If this was any other bichir, I wouldn't worry... but Indy's my baby :(

1 tablespoon for every 5 gallons. sry to hear about that.

No problem and goodluck.

Fairly poor pic, but you get the idea. When the light comes thru the tail it's nearly blood red.

Looks like typical damage bichirs do to each other. The melafix salt treatment youre doing is good, also do an extra water change or two to keep it really clean this week.

I've had bichirs suffer much worse damage than that (literally, no tail left), and they healed nicely. The big problem is preventing it from happening again during recovery and after. Is the congicus always aggressive?

Stress coat is also a good product to help with its healing.

The only fish I've seen the Congicus get along with are my buettekoferis. She tried to tear my laps to pieces, too. Every fish she gets into it with is removed from the tank. Now its her and four buettekoferi. She didn't bother Indy for a long time, but Indy is going through another growth spurt and really the only competition Medusa has in the tank. Indy is a wonderful hunter when it comes to the feeder fish and always gets to the other food before the other fish as well. Medusa was in a tank alone for awhile, and she's used to bein the only fish at the top of the chain. Maybe she just has beef with other lower jaws. I don't know what her issue is lol

You know, I also have a problem with another Endlicheri of mine. Izzy is an Endlicheri Endlicheri, in a 30g alone with two other bichirs. Izzy measures out at 6'', tankmates being a 5'' mokelembembe and a 5'' palmas polli. She terrorizes them. The moke has learned to stay at the other side of the tank, and the polli lays on the branches of a log far away from her as well. They stay uninjured unless they hang out around her too long.

Huh. I have never had any aggression between any of my bichirs. How often do u feed them and what?
