You use an inverter to raise the solar panels voltage to 120v (or alot of solar panels).
You can try the surplus sites and cobble something together if your handy.

there are plenty for sale on ebay that seem pretty good and they are cheap in price too. I am not sure if they are big enough though but you can always check them out and see. hope that helps too!
Dr Joe - I was pondering the possibility of using kiddie pools to grow some plants outside over the summer...
That or maybe I should talk the wife into letting me turn our above ground pool into an aquaculture project - grow crawdads and catfish to sell locally.
Found a local solar specialty place yesterday, think I'll stop by and pick their brains when I'm done teaching tonite.

Where are you located?
Time constraints may limit growth if your in the north, here (Florida) it takes 7-9 months to raise fingerlings (4-6") to 1lb.
You'll need alot of filtering and aeration too to get marketable fish. Get a smaller pool (10ft) and use as a sump with your plants (refugium or bog style). Return the water by splashing into the center of the pond.
Be aware that there are alot of diseases to deal with raising crawdads.

Have you ever kept Talipia outside ? I was looking at some black mask/face talipia in TFH article must say rather stunning.
I saw wild ones in lake just reg drab looking but imagine they would do well outside all yr long ?

Absolutely. That's one of the good things about Florida, a 5ft deep pond with some shade and the the temp stays pretty constant. I like Tilapia, I think they are an interesting fish. I started with Mozambique's about 36 yrs ago. Drove us crazy with all the substrate being constantly moved around (pea gravel). Wake up in the morning and they would have it piled a different way.
And so easy to take care of. They grew to 18" - 23" (fed very well).

I have some pics that will post this week of the Miami Fish farm it has vats of fish outside I stopped by today after work. They are above ground not more than 2 feet deep yet fish are out all yr long (maybe they heat them in winter) I got a good pic of the cheap assorted Mbuna cichlid vat great colors and some big blue ahlis,etc.
And general picture of the fish vats. They have koi-real nice fancy golds but cichlid vats were stocked and nice.
