My female jagx dovii goes through all the pre spawn procedures with my jag, but never seems to commit. My jag gets all excited, tube drops, twitches and dances. She finds a spot, cleans, rubs, gets really aggressive towards him, then nothing. He gets all upset and starts beating her up. She's just over 2 yrs old so I know she's mature enough. Could it be that my jag is her father and she's not down for that type of thing?

You a funny guy, but I hear some Fishy Folks thinks that "Incest is the Best?"

Haha it was never my intent for them to breed. When I put her in with her dad it was supposed to temporary, but they've killed everything they've ever been with, except for each other. I tried putting her with my male dovii but she beats him up, "no dad I told you, I don't wanna have babies with you!" lol.

Well it's not so much an issue of infertility in this case. :) Even when females are infertile, they generally will still lay eggs - just that the eggs aren't viable. This is more of she's not ready, I guess.

Really? That is the opposite of what I have heard. I have heard if the female lays eggs she is fertile and if she doesn't lay eggs she is infertile.

Do what could it be? Not ready? Doesn't like her dad (yuck)? Could she be dry?

I agree with Azedenkae. A female fish that is ready and comfortable will lay some eggs but since they are the only 2 in the tank its hard to say why she won't. I have a 2 year old hybrid female that has did the pairing thing but has never spawned for me either, but also she has never been in a tank with just her mate. The eggs layed can be fertile or unfertile. I have a sterile rt that had 3 sterile spawns with my fertile carpintis. Fertile or not they usually will lay eggs.

Mhm, as crush said.

Though of course, there are some cases whereby the female is so deformed physiologically that she doesn't even produce egs/can't lay them, but usually that's be accompanied by really bad, visible issues.
