Looking for a natural looking substrate? Want an inert product that won't cause issues with water parameters? Thinking about live plants?
You might want to look into a few products I'll mention here. Infield conditioners are usually made from expanded clay products and come in standard clay colors (brown, red, tan). I am still waiting on a few suppliers fliers for a complete color listing. These products are gaining popularity in the aquatics industry more specifically in planted environments. Some enthusiasts seed their substrate with fertilizers before putting it in their aquariums. I don't claim to be knowledgeable enough in regards to fertilizing and seeding to say more than that. These products are very inexpensive and are a good alternative to more expensive products like Colorquartz etc.

Comes in red, sorry for the poor picture. In person the color is closer to a champagne pinkish.

DiamondPro

Tan, Brown, Red, and Grey (looks good underwater imo). The dirt look in the pictures isn't necessarily like the product, the product is expanded clay pebbles.

Turface

Tans, Red, and Grey

Other products that are clay based and basically the same thing only marketed for different uses:
Oil-Dri, Diatomite, Special Kitty
Various Browns. The first image also includes clay based kitty litter top right (Special Kitty) and Diatomite top left, the Oil Dri is on the bottom.

Hopefully these give you new ideas and options for your substrate wishes. I didn't link all of the products because there are literally hundreds, these are just a few of the more common and easy to get products. Most of these products can be found at local stores such as Tractor Supply, Wilbur Ellis, Simplot, John Deere, etc... Happy Fishkeeping!
