hi I have a mbuna that is currently isolated after fighting another fish in the tank.he was injured in his backfin and wasnt eating. After isolation I've noticed he is breathing rapidly and has something weired going on in his gills.
What do you think is this?

Have you attempted to medicate the fish while in isolation? When injuries and stress occur, it can often open the door for different forms of sickness to take hold while their immune system is weakened.

Maybe try adding a more broad treating medication such as Metroplex or something of the sort?

I would also suggest to possibly increase surface agitation within the tank as this will help to increase dissolved Oxygen levels in the water. Air stones work fine - but I would highly suggest a small wavemaker towards surface level if you can. This might help with the labored breathing.

You could also attempt dosing aquarium salt into the system which is known to help relieve stress on the animal which allows more energy to be focused on fighting off the illness.

Hopefully this helps!
