Care to share more abt african arowanas? Are they aggressive?

My afaros are the largest and most docile fish in the tanks. I've never seen them harrass any other fish.

However, young afaros are extremely intolerant of each other. So much so that juvenile afaros must be separated or they'll kill each other. Once they pass the one foot mark, they seem to calm down and get along.

Do a search on this site with african arowana, af aro, and Heterotis niloticus since this species has been discussed frequently. Here's a start for you:

are u sure you want one because they are very hard to rear when young
Wat are the water parameters requirement for them?

Mine are currently in tanks with different Polypterus species. No problems with the mix.
They're kept in high alkaline conditions (pH 7.8 and above) with the addition of rift lake salts (calcium chloride). The substrate is bulk limestone, limestone fossils, and aragonite/pea gravel mix. Temp 80F
