I managed to keep my silver from getting it after two mornings on the floor and a length of 12in. Do not know much on the disease, any info appreciated! Can it be deadly?

this is just my opinion but, arowanas are surface fish and their prey at at the bottom and somtimes above water. so since the prey is below i do not believe that drop eye is a disease or conditon or genetic thing i think its just natural.

sorry for de-rail. but i was gonna ask if we know why they get DE?

It can't be natural, as the fish would have likely long ago adapted its eyes to all levels of the water in the wild if that were the case.

This is just my opinion as well.

I think part of it is caused by head trauma, however, I had an idea the other night.

In the wild, they're constantly looking up for food. In tanks, especially those with other fish in them, the need to look down for food becomes part of their daily lives. Perhaps DE is evolution. The eye drops to see food that may be on the tank floor and also to keep an eye on tankmates within close quarters.
