when i get my bigger tank (200g or bigger)i am going to add a breeding pair of ex 'Cichlasoma' istlanum 'red' but i would like to know some information like
Size?
temperment?
Breeding? (easy or hard)
compatible with:
1 v. argentea
1 carpintis
3 oscars
2 convicts
1 jack
1 Green terror
1 chocolate pleco
Plus any other info would be great.
thanks

Ive never kept istlanum before, but from what Ive heard they are pretty nasty. In general its never a good idea to have a breeding pair of cichlids in a cichlid community. Certainly there are exceptions, as you increase the tank size your more likely to succeed. I could see the istlanum pair making a mess out your other semi-aggressive cichlids in a 200gallon tank.

I dont see why you couldnt try it, just make sure you have an extra tank to put the pair in if/when they act out.

Scratch the oscars and I think you could have a shot. Istlanum are notorious for spousal abuse so you may want to keep and eye on them.

Then good luck....to be honest.

Then just watch them closely and it could work; I have a pair of aggro cichlids with fry in my 180 and they aren't attacking any of the other fish because they know to stay clear. If the oscars are larger I'm sure that will help too.
