I just picked up a beautiful male Paralabidochromis chromogynos. I havent been able to find much info on this fish. Any info you could give me on him would be greatly appreciated.

Cool looking fish. I haven't kept them before but I know people who have. They are fairly easy Vic to keep happy and not terribly aggressive.

What are his tankmates going to be?

Right now him and a Astatotilapia latifasciata are in my peacock tank while I wait for my vic tank to cycle. They are doing great, the peacocks haven't been messing with them. Hopfully they will be in the vic tank by the weekend. I'm planning on putting in an order for the rest of the vics for the tank this week, any suggestions on tank mates would be appreciated.

I think the 2 VICS you selected are good choices for a tank.
They look different enough for you to enjoy, and different enough that they won't try to cross breed.
Add a group of synodontis petricola to play around on the bottom.

I had a beautiful male...see the pic. These fish are omnivores and they are on the lower end of aggression when it comes to vics.

Beautiful male! What are you keeping him with?

I just got a call from the guy I got him from and he said he was just offered 2 females. Would a trio work for breeding? Could I keep the trio with other vics in my tank or would it be better to keep them in there own tank? I have a spare 50gal breeder if need be.

Also anyone know what the normal price range is for these guys? I spent $20 on a 4inch male, and am being offered 3inch females for $15 each. Sounds cheap to me but I honestly have no idea.
I've been keeping Mbunas and Peacocks for a few years now but I'm a vic newb.

The good thing with these guys is even the females are piebald. You can mix them and yes a trio would work. They would be alright with the zebras as long as the zebras didn’t get overly aggressive. They key to mixing vics is making sure females are completely different. You can’t mix 2 species that have plain silver females. Also, make sure the males are different as well. I don’t have my guys anymore (but I’d like to get them again). I kept mine in with some other Haps and they did well and spawned just fine. I would say that is a good price as these guys are pretty rare and most times I have seen them priced at 8-12 bucks for 1 inch babies.

well looks like he has the opportunity to pick up females since the guy he bought the male from has females.
so, now he CAN breed them.

$15 for adults is fine, I'd swoop on them.
I'm getting fry for close to that to increase my Vic collection.
