Hi everyone as some of you may seen i have a thread about getting a senegal bichir and i was also going to get three red clawed crabs, i would defentintly have the senegal bichir with the crabs by the way. I was going to get a turtle dock for the crabs so they can breath but being my tank is a normal show tank its meant for fish so im not going to lower the water level more than halfway just for the crabs. So can the crabs climb the airline tubing to get to the turtle dock? and can i feed them shrimp pellets and any other information would be nice thanks everyone

The crabs can climb up to the dock ut I don't know if they will find it in time enough before they run out of air. They may aso be in danger of being eaten or killed by the bichirs.

well id only have one bichir and im sure they are under four inches at the pet store i also made a section in the middle of the tank non of the fish can get to and i have cave like structures for the crabs on either side of the tank as well as in the middle. Do you think if i put the crabs on the land first they will lern to go ther? And what do they eat. Also another not will they be good with any of the folowing fish
Red oscar,7/8 inches
Ob peacock, 6 inches
Red blood parrot 5/6 inches

In that case the crabs should be safe from the bichir but once they get bigger it's hunting season, same goes for the Oscars. Most crabs are scavengers and will sample most aquarium foods that they can get to...Your tank idea sounds interesting and I'd like to see it but I think the crabs would be better off in a small shallow tank of their own.

Ya i completly understand that but i just think it would be a great idea i have completly gone through with this idea i just simply dont have the fish lol or the dock. I have overkill air in the tank so hopefully the crabs wont need to go up as often at least im hoping. I know my idea is not recomended but hey people said i couldnt put a Red blood parrot with a oscar and i did it and it works fine. I have a amazing filter so the crabs or bichir wont ad to much to my bio load i have a amazing fluval 305 and a overhang filter its total almost 400 gph. And i also have snails in the tank which are two inches or so across and my oscar cant even halfway wrap his mouth around them and my oscar is around eight inches!

Give it a go and keep us posted.

If i pull this off that would be amazing theres nothing else that is cooler than a snakehead looking fish that breathes air walks on water and look cool as hell lol and the crabs okay im going to the store today and i will tell you how it works i closed all my blinds and coverd the tank with towels to trick my fish into thinking its beddy time lol so when i add the fish in hopefully they wont notice till the next day lol. BUt i sure as hell will keep you posted

I had a crab in one of my tanks before and he some how climbed the airline tubing or filter and got out of the tank. I found him during the night crawling around my room and thought he was a big spider :nilly:.
