info on tarpon

hey fellas what are tarpon like . i can one for 30.00. but i dont know what there all about.. are they aggressive growth rate etc....

nm i looked up some pics and they look lame.. look like silversides that i catch around my house.

I have three of them and I like them very much. They feed very aggressively. Mine eat freeze dried krill, pellets, smelt, shrimp. They are not aggressive towards other fish and they school together. They do better in schools vs alone. They are very fast and have very good eyesight. They are not the most colorful fish, but either is a silver aro. My Tarpon are about 8" and have a bright chrome silver color. I like them and they don't come by that often. Depending on which one you have they get pretty big. I have the Indo Tarpons and I hear in the aquarium they don't get much bigger than 24".

can you feed them feeder fish? how big of tank do you need to have multiple tarpon?

oh about 50,000 gallons if you want a small school.

Tarpon get huge, like 5-6' and 150+lbs, so even one probably isnt a smart idea for the average aquarist

I beleive there are different species though, smaller ones I mean (still probably get over 2')

There are two species as far as I know, the indo-pacific tarpon and the atlantic tarpon. I believe the indo-pacific is the smaller of the two.
