Calling all ray owners

Dear members, I am calling all formal & current ray owners to list what you have experiences from their Likes & Dislikes.
I want to create a compilation to educate all future ray owners with the practical knowledge & know-how on rays and their different behaviors / characteristics.

My intention is to preserve and protect their already dwindling population from our negligent of all sorts. Sure hope this thread will better equip keeper with the know-how, which in return save you money & most importantly, to preserve this beautiful species for generations to come.

Here is the format to follow for easy reading.

Breed : Eg: Black / Tiger / Motoros

Ray Status: Formal / Current

Likes: :D

Dislikes: :(

Comments:

Note: The information post is base on individual experiences and does not provide a guarantee to ZERO ray fatalities. Please used your own judgment.

Appreciate all your contribution in advance.

Ps: Please send in your contribution then chat on the comments section if you have too. Try to keep it to a minimum……thanks

Great thread Tyson ! .. ok ill add..

Breed : Leo/PDR ( Potamotrygon Leopoldi)

Ray Status: Current

Likes: Perfect Water ( zero ammonia, nitritite and below 20 ppm nitrate ) , plenty of meaty food ( shrimps, blackworms, silversides ), Neutral Ph to slightly acidic. 82 C temp.

Dislikes: Fluctuating PH, Aggressive Tankmates, Ill maintained filters.

Comments: Leos are one of the most active and striking rays in the Potamotrygon Family. One of the hardier ones too.

Breed : PDRs / Tigers

Ray Status: Current

Likes: Lots of food / Substrate / Strong Current / Good & powerful filter system / BIG space

Dislikes: Handling / Diet change (for small rays) / flucation of any sort / Salt / Stressful environment / haunting tank mates / Most chemicals & medication for aquariums.

Comments: Relevent lighting is needed for their well being. A good guide is to memic our day light hours.

Sure hope to hear from more.
Gald u guys like it. ;)

Breed: Motoro Stingray

Ray Status: Current

Likes: Motoros Like a gravel or sandy substrate with a ph of 6.5 to 8.0. Water temperature should be 86 degrees. MINIMUM tank Size is over 100 Gallons. Feeding These rays is not difficult. Give them red worms, individually quick frozen raw shrimp, and blood worms. Supplementing the food several times a month is acceptable. These rays are one of the most bred.

Dislikes: Rays should be kept by themselves or with other rays, since most tankmates are unpredictable. Rays have to have Pristine water quality. Do not skimp on filtration heating, ect or you will pay for it with a dead ray. Also rays can get burnt by heaters very easily so unless your heater is in a sump you will need to make a heater gaurd out of pvc pipe cut the pipe to fit over your heater. 1" I.D.(Inside Diameter) pipe should work nicely, then drill holes so water can get in for proper heat excahange. Drill The Holes 1/8" in diameter

Comments: This is the best ray for beginners, if you have the space, time, money, ect take the ray plunge: you won't regret it

Breed: Blue motoro

Ray Status: Current

Likes: Temp above 82F. Likes to eat shrimp(w/ shell on), black worms, superworms and jardini :D. All parameters are zero. He loves to play w/ the current.

Dislikes: New tankmates

Comments: My 1st ray. He loves to do summersaults.

Breed P. Reticulata

Current Status : Past Stingray

Likes : 80 to mid 80s temperature , High DO , Perfect Water , Neutral PH Preferred
loves blackworms, earthworms and chopped shrimps

Dislikes - Like most rays hates, fluctuating PH

According to Aqualog, Max size for P retic is 50 CM. I have kept mine until it was 10 inches in diameter and lost her during a move.

Temp between 76-86f
Diet: blackworms(when young), whole nightcrawlers
also when young and small I just try to put as much weight on them as
possible, so I stick to a strict diet once they are 10"plus then thats when I suggest
trying a new diet or switching them onto other foods.:)
(ie shrimp, scallop,smelt.. and so on)

Water: 7.8-8.0ph

I do routinly water changes twice a week and big ones 90-100%
water conditioner used is Prime

Feeding: I feed 3times daily every 8hours

gravel: I keep my tank barebottom

Mike..

I'll add mines as well..........

Comments: I got it's spine stuck one time in my net and it's intire body turned sky blue color....
