Greetings fellow!
Does anyone have information about the catfish species Amphiilus brevis? Only got little information on Planet Catfish and wanted to know if any of the friends of the forum already has possessed one.
That's it, I hope you can help me, because the opportunity arose to buy one, but I do not feel safe to do so.
Bye,

I think you'd have a much better chance asking at PCF. They are rare, specialist, small (max 3") "non-MFK-type" of fish. And if you provide a photo, the guys at PCF may be able to ID it properly for you.

Ok!
I researched on the PCF (I'm not a member) and I did not find ... Can I take a picture in the store, but I wanted to know is if it is a good tankmate for Polypterus (rope fish, senegalus and delhezi) and African Knife Fish.
Or if someone can say, from experience, if the species in question is a target or a threat. The size must fit in the first case, is not it?
Thanks!

What do you mean? Did you not find this page http://www.planetcatfish.com/common/species.php?species_id=2916 ?

It'd appear to me that all the listed tank mates could easily prey on your catfish.

If you are not the member on PCF and serious about cats, you'd benefit a lot from becoming one. It's not like one has to pay for it :)

Yes I found this page. But admit that the picture of the animal dissected does not help much, does it;)?
Also, do not say anything about the interaction with other species ... And the forum is the same thing.
My Polypterus are not heavyweights. Actually the rope fish is a featherweight ... And the African Knife fish, probably not eating a adult guppy:)Not signed up on PCF because so far I have not had catfish and it seems I will not have ... But eventually has attended the site.
Thank you again:thumbsup:.

Yeah but I am not helping much at all. Sorry :) That's another reason I was thinking your case can be so valuable. If it is the right fish, the Cat-eLog might soon contain your first images of a live specimen instead of the preserved one. Anyway, I am starting to appear pushy. You do what you have to, friend!

Far from it buddy! Any return is better than the emptiness of that silence, even more that I had not mentioned the research on PCF and another friend can access this information.
Apparently, the way is starting to empiricism ... Before I prepare the ground for action in the event of conflict between tank mates (my hospital tank is disabled and need it ready).
Any news, I post here.
Bye!

Hail, folks!
Updating... I returned to the store and saw that there is an error of identification ... This was not a Amphilius brevis but a Ageneiosus brevifilis, known as Palmito (Palmetto), which is too large for my tank, by the way.

And how as it was identified in stock:

That's an Ageneiosus all right, not sure of the species. It is not A. brevis, aka the Slopehead Catfish -- http://www.planetcatfish.com/common/species.php?species_id=1783 -- cannot mistaken that with other species.

Now it makes more sense to me as I don't think Amphilius brevis has ever been seen in the hobby.
