I tried to do a search to find my answer, but, I didnt fair too well.

If I search for Wonder Board, those 2 words are too common and you get a million hits. If I search for Wonderboard I only came up with on hit.

Ive read countless of posts of people using hardiboard/hardibacker, when building their plywood tank to line and then seal with paint.

Ok, so the question, is in here somewhere. I have several pieces of 4x8 of wonder board. Would this be just as useful as hardiboard/hardibacker?

I know hardiboard is only approx $1 more to use, but this is what I have left over when rebuilding my bathroom and would like to put it too good use.

Thoughts? Ideas? Help!

The short answer is yes (to your specific question).
Wonderboard or Hardibacker are acceptable sustrates for a tile application.
I am pretty sure that it would be unacceptable to line a tank with it and expect paint to do the rest of the job.
Just sayin'

I agree, that wonder board alone would not do the trick. I guess I should have been more specific and saying, "Would wonder board be a good substitute for hardiboard when lining the inside of a plywood tank?"

As a subsistute to a system known to work i don't see why not, i can't remeber which is which but one is more conceret then the other so whatever is coating it might be good to test or make sure it will stick properly
