Recently saw a dark gray bichir and I liked the look of it. I used to think they were ugly:)
Im setting up a 55 gallon in a couple months, would it be able to live its whole life comfortably in there? If so, what are some good tankmates? A peacock eel is on my list, so if itll end up eating the eel.. Ill pass on the bichir!

Was there any markings on the body? if no then its a senegal bichir and yea it could live in a 55 for life and yes it could live with a peacock eel provided that the eel is longer then the bichir.

Yes there were markings. It kind of reminded me of a snake skin.

Most Bichir's except for a Senegalus (the kind seen at petsmart) will require a tank wider than a 55. While it does provide enough gallons 13" is tight. A 40B or something else with equal or more water volume but at least a 18" foot print would be better. If you can get a picture or Google image search Bichir. That may help you with the ID.

Thank you. I will just hold off then. Hopefully I will have a "monster" tank for it someday. Slowly upgrading tank size :)
