My younger bro is demanding to keep blood parrots after he saw it at his friends place. But i have no basic idea about them. Can you'll please help me.
Some of my queries are:
*what kind of water condition they require?
*are they sturdy as flowerhorns?
*diet
*tank setup
*how should be kept in 1 tank(i have a 3 feet tank)

extra information would also be appreciated

They are ok from my experience I have a few small ones in a 125 with large and small red devils jags cons ect... they got beat down at first then when I thought they were through the bounced back. I have to say they are pretty tough.

*As long as your water is clean and stable, they will happily adjust to most anything except the most extreme ph levels. temps of 76-80* work well
*diet is a good staple cichlid pellet, or OSI makes one specially for parrots. add in plankton or bloodworms also. dont use large sized pellets as they have small mouths that cant close
*tank set-up, they like caves and hiding spots, other than that they are happy in either sand, gravel or bare bottom tanks, and will be happier with lots of plants to hide in and out of, but their not needed.
*in a 3ft tank, ideally i would put 2 parrots with a few smaller, fast moving fish like danios to keep their attention off chasing each other. they cant catch fast fish since they swim fairly slowly.

overall, blood parrots are a very hardy fish, adaptable to many living conditions and diets, and can be cool little fish to watch. you will have no problems as long as you change around 25-50% of their water each week, and keep them fed well.

that was thorough. all good info^^^ up there. males are sterile. females can and will try to breed with nearly any male cichlid larger than they are. there temperment varies alot. one can be very timid and the other very aggressive. they can't close their mouths so they don't do much damage. they can eat swim and do everything else a normal fish does but they are slow swimmers. they can't eat any fish that they can't swallow whole so tankmate possibilties are huge. hmmmm... that is all i can think of at the moment.
