Ok, lots of info on here if I search, search, search... I tried to find all the info I could, however sometimes experience from people who actually have the fish is better. So not to annoy, please a little info.

I have 2 different tank choices at the moment, I understand the larger is better but if you would give me an idea.

Tank 1:
60x18x16 70g

Tank 2:
72x18x24. 135g

If I was to purchase a 3-5" jardini arowana, feed pellet food and fresh or frozen seafood (no feeders)... what is the lenght of time I can expect to keep it in either tank? I guess my main question is how fast do they grow?

I can get 3" silver arowanas all day long, but I would like a jardini.. Not only do I perfer them in looks, but I know they tend to be smaller fish when full grown.

Anyways, any and all info would be great.

The main issue with both tanks is an 18" width. It should be fine in either for around a year.

Are these tank choices a purchase or just something sitting around unused? If a purchase, I suggest saving for a larger tank build and doing it only once. They grow fast and need a large footprint to properly house for life.

No no... I currently have both tanks up and running with fish in them. I've been pondering an arowana for some time, and just wanted to get some more info before I consider the future purchase. I really like jardini and asian arowanas, but being in the US, asians are not possible, so a jardini it is.

I think you'll be fine with the 135g for the 1st 8 months to a year...but id honestly go larger or reconsider...they grow FAST! I kinda scoffed at the warnings when I finally got ahold of some aro's thinking..."eh, I've been in this hobby 30yrs now...they can't grow that fast" hahahahaa....boy was I shocked!

I have a Jardini in a 220 and it's around 15" it really hasn't grown much and the guy I bought it from said that it was close to 3 years old. I believe that to be inaccurate but who knows. Either he's wrong or the arowana I have is stunted. I like to think he's wrong. I've read that Jardini grow a lot slower than silver arowana though and although they can potentially reach 30" it's rare to see and it takes a long long time. I'd expect more like 24"-26"

I wouldn't do it, you may think that once he gets to big you will sell him but things could happen and you may not get round to selling him immediately and you couldhave stunted that arowana. All I can say is to get a bigger tank
