  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
It is a Lates, like the Baramundi. The latter is from Australiam the former from Africa. They get huge beasts. Very difficult to get off from live food.

One hell of a fish to own!!!

Thanks for your reply.
So what is the diff between a lates niloticus and Baramundi.
And, popularity among the two??

Luc

L. calcarifer (Barramundi) has a longer jaw line, extends past the eye and larger scales than the Nile Perch (L. niloticus)

Also different color pattern but that's hard to explain.

As far as popularity I don't know, I'd take either :D

So L. calcarifer is the one that is sought after right?
Nile Perch is like a red tailed Payara right?

Luc

hey unless you got a pool planed dont get either. neither are 'popular' due to the fact they get so big so quick. and from my experiene mine were quite eas tog et off live foods.

niloticus gets to around 2 meters.
barras get just a wee bit smaller.
both HUGE fish.
both look very much the same when big.
but small niloticus have different colorations due to the variations.
but the ones ive seen in singapore have brown and goldish mottled patterns.
barras are more silver and grey with the white head stripe.
