Hey all! I just bought a 160 G (6ft) tank but the owner insisted for me to take the fish. Been keeping puffers, but kids have kept me out of the hobby for about a decade, but now I’m back!

My original thought was to have a more planted tank with maybe school of... maybe Paranhas (maybe too cliche), but seems like I just got a jumpstart on the "Monster" species!
I had to give away an 8 inch Datnioide, just cause I think it's really crammed!

So now, I'm thinking of selling/giving away the Peacocks but was wondering if you guys can confirm the species?

Thinking of trading the Peacocks in (tank's too small as they dart and hit things all the time) for a pair, or even one golden/red Severum? (Ethically, I'm kinda against the Blood Parrot, but I would like some colour). The Peacocks are quite beautiful, but I just don't think there's room for them.

I didn't think I was an Aro fan, but dam fish is so majestic.
Any other recommendations?

p.s. don't mind the background, had to spin the tank up but will put black film/paint it once the fish settle.

Can’t believe you want to trade those in for some severums and parrots? And you gave away what seems to be a 3 bar Datnoid. You must be trolling

I think this is where I ask please educate me? I know the Dat probably retails for 80/100 CAD (I'm just north off Toronto, ON Canada), but it was for the betterment of the Tank (I think). It seemed too crowded.

I've seen Juvenile Peacocks go for 30/40/CAD, but they are tiny. I'd like to keep them but again, I think the tank is just a little small as they seem to hit everything. I've seen Arowana's go for $100/1K plus, but I'm guessing my Aro is probably 500?

Just a middle aged dad getting back into the hobby so I feel like I'm missing something here... Is it just easy come easy go, or am I really dropping the ball here?

Not trolling, I promise.

I believe people are trying to say that you have inherited some very valuable and beautiful fish, and few serious hobbyists would want to trade the fish you have for more common fish like Severums and BPs. Dedicated hobbyists pay hundreds to even thousands to get a few of those fish because many of them are rare. I wouldn't be surprised if those fish alone were more money than the tank and equipment of the tank itself. While I don't know what you paid for that tank, I assume you got it for a bargain. Perhaps consider keeping the fish where they are or getting a larger tank if you feel like they are cramped (which, admittedly, they do look a bit cramped).

Oh, for sure, I realize I got a deal, cause the owner essentially threw in the fish more or less for free.
I guess I didn't think it was that big of a deal at the time as I was looking to do more of a planted.

p.s. Getting a bigger tank than 160G and getting my wife's approval might be a tough sell lol. trying to justify an exotic pet and spending a few thousand on a new 180g/220g set-up... (maybe even bigger?) haha.

I would think a lot about it before selling more of those fish because if you decide to get serious with the hobby, you may regret getting rid of those beauties.

Also, I just realized I didn't welcome you, so welcome to the fun group!

If you decide to keep them, perhaps you could plant the tank and make it look really nice for them. You could end up getting something better than what you initially thought you got.
