Iam a saltwater guy but i just inherited (not purchased/saved/ect but inherited) 3 old age silver dollars and 2 red belly pacus (teen agers i guess).

will a 175g bow front be enough to commy house these fish for life?

please give what ever constructive advice you can about these fish so i can provide the optimum enviorment for them for life

As far as for life for the pacus, no. The silver dollars can be fine in something much smaller, but the pacus grow like 2' or more

The silvers would be more than at home in a 175. You'll want to upgrade eventually for the pacus though. Feed plant based foods, toss some driftwood in the tank to encourage acidification to suit their environment. Pacus get to 2', keep that in mind.

well if they are in thier teens they have kind of been in that tank for life. Its possible they are suffering from stunting. If you can a pond would be a great way to give them more room.Great care needs to be taken with moving older large fish as its easy to injure them in the moving. And depending with the prior owners maintenance schedule, sudden changes in water quality could be an issue as well.
Good luck with them.

I inherited the fish not the tank, i have no idea what tank or conditions they were living in, they came from being left in an apartment when my mom evicted the non paying "renters"..and i dont know if ill have them for long term or not as any property left in an apartment after eviction must be kept for 30days for the evicty to claim if they want them... the 175g bow is the only tank i had avaliable to get the fish out of a bucket (at least they had an airstone in the bucket).

this is not the 1st time i have "inherited" fish left in the apartment(s) that i have had to keep for 30 days before i can try to find them a home but most of the fish have been basic communtiy tanks/fish some i still have (kids tanks) and some i have found approperate homes for but i doubt i will find an aproperate home for the pacu. so at the moment my plans are to make a "pond" in my green house which is heated in the winter .... what size "pond" would i need for theese 5 fish..basicly the "pond" will be a hole dug in the ground lineed with a pond linner/heavy plastic.. of course i will implement filtration/water movment/ariation and approperate water conditions/quality of life/enviormental conditions
