I got some used lava rock from a local guy that broke down his tank. Its been dry for a couple months now.
What do I need to do to be sure its safe? I was considering boiling it but some of the pieces are large and might pose a problem.

Thoughts? Thanks!

What do you plan on doing with the rocks?

Rock should be fine. I went out grabbed some off the ground brought it home soaked it in a new 30 gal. garbage pal for the night. Washed it the next day and put it in the tank. No problems. Yours has already been in a tank. I would wash it and put it in. Done! Here is a picture of what it looked like right after. I need some plants and maybe more rock in mine. Be sure to post some pictures when done.:D

Cool... that's kinda what I thought. Thanks for the feedback.

(btw... your tank looks great!)

Wash and rinse them hard with a hose then soak for a day then rinse hard again. I usually do this with any new ornament for three days. But its beyond overkill one day should suffice.

soak for a lil while in hot water then rinse with cold to bring it back downto room temp and then throw it in the tank!
