Yesterday my 10" black aro somehow managed to get over the overflow comb and into the weir, his tail end got sucked into the pipe that drains to the sump, but his front half was sticking out so he was still able to breath. Luckily the flow isn't very strong! I managed to fish him out and he's still swimming around, but looking pretty bad. Lots of torn fins and missing scales, a cloudy bung-looking eye, and worst of all his back half is floating. He still has full movement of his spine but looks awkward trying to swim fast, kinda like a fat midget trying to run (apologies to any fat midgets who might read this!). His back half is stuck at the surface of the water, and I watched him trying to swim down a bit and as soon as he stopped swimming his back end rapidly floated up causing him to do a headstand!

I've done a water change and added salt and melafix. He doesn't seem to be interested in food.

Does anyone have any experience with injuries such as this? What are the chances of him making a full recovery and being able to swim normally?

Up the temps and put in salt ) you already did salt =

Was his mouth out of the water during that ordeal ? I suspect more of swallowed air than swimm bladder problem

Leave it be, do not feed nor stress it.

Blacks are quite sensitive. Let us hope that tomorrow you have good news.

Temp is already at about 30C during the day, maybe dropping to 28C over night, don't really want to turn it up any more!

His hed was submerged but there are plenty of bubbles where he was sitting so swallowed air could be an accurate diagnosis. Fingers crossed, you have given me hope!

The other thing is that I'm going on holiday in about 5 minutes, but a friend who is also a fish keeper will be visiting every second day to feed and keep an eye on it.

Sorry to hear, David :)

man that sucks, sorry to hear the bad news dave

i dont think any suppliers have blacks anymore, not sure they are going to import them again but will keep an eye out for ya

was to be expected...they are very fragile, Blacks.

Sorry !

sorry to hear that bro, i don't know if it too late but try to put 7 powder packets tetracycline, more air tone, increase temp to 32 C and put more salt, do not feed any food
