I've got a 7 inch green terror that likes to think he is in charge of the tank, and will challenge my 9 inch oscar to a fight he can't win. They will do the old mouth lock, and typically the damage is minor. But last time the oscar took quite a chunk out of the terrors lower lip. He's got a chunk of bone or tissue of some kind sticking out of his lip. I'm not sure what fish have in their lower lips, but whatever it is, it's really sticking out. I'm not sure what to do about it. Seems like it's too far out to heal over. Trying to clip it off seems overly traumatic ? He still eating alright, and is not showing any obvious signs of distress. Needless to say he hasn't tried to pick a fight with the oscar since then. Any advice?

I'd throw some salt in there and reduce the heat of the water. Sometimes lowering the temperature reduces aggression, you don't want the injuries to get worse. What size tank and what stock?

My 5" red belly piranha had this, happened from aggression, corner of his mouth had 1/3" of small pointy bone sticking out from hitting wall or rock, i kept water amazing and 7 days later 100% better. Strange thing is it acted and ate fine.

GL and change water 2x as much!

Already did some salt, and already have the temp as low as I'm comfortable with. Good to know that something like this can actually heal over. It's been about 4 days, and all the other damage seems to be almost healed, but no sign of the bone receding. Guess we'll see.

Interesting choice of fish for someone that is starting to breed fish. I wish you the best of luck.

I have never bred bichers before, but I have a young group of albino senegal bichers that are about 1 year old. I wonder how long does it take for senegal bichers to mature? Mine are still under 8" after 1 year. The males seem to grow slower than the female. Has anyone else observed this kind of growth rate with their senegal bichers?

I didnt adjust temp or use salt. Just low nitrates and zero ammonia is the way to be.

Let me know what happens!!
