Forgot to mention it in my last post, but the ornate poly that I bought had been injured by a huge pacu the lfs was housing it with, which is why they had moved it to a much smaller tank by itself. One pectoral fin is almost completely gone, while the other one was ravaged pretty badly but still there. Tail was also injured but seems to be coming back pretty well. None of the wounds look infected, I am still treating with melafix and pimafix as well as some aquarium salt to help out. Seems to be moving around ok in spite of the injuries, curious to explore the tank when the lights go out, but i have not observed him eating. he is nice and thick, which leads me to believe he was in good condition before the attack. going to get him some tilapia and shrimp from the grocery store tonight. Anything aside from what I am already doing that anyone can suggest? thanks in advance for the help

:)Sounds like you have it in hand if he wont eat try some earthworms they seem to love them.

yup, sounds like you're pretty much on top of the situation.. he'll/she'll be fine!

Thanks for the encouraging replies. threw in some earthworms when i got home and he didn't seem interested at all, but i left them in and just a couple minutes ago saw him gobbling one up...cannot tell you how good it felt to see him eat. only had him a couple of days but he's been out and about, exploring the tank and seems to be loosening up a bit. I have been leaving the tank light off and just having the lights in the room on and that seems to be making a big difference. just seems a lot more comfortable. so you guys think the fins should eventually grow back alright?

thanks for the help and encouragement guys. went out and got some tilapia and gave him a few small pieces. funny, just like with the earthworms he kinda just sniffed at it, did a few loops around the tank, and then came back to it and gobbled it like he was seeing it for the first time. very funny fish. first poly and i can already tell i am addicted. it's like having a little dinosaur. i will post picks soon and keep everyone updated
