I was just trying to catch my red tailed giant gourami to put him in the 310 gal. He was swimming around and when I finally got near him he darted into the gravel in a tight corner and his right gill started bleeding . I can still see blood coming out after 5 mins. He is about 7-8" and in with bichirs while he grows out. I have put in salt, about a teaspoon per gallon and am raising the temp to 28C.

What else if anything can I do?

Thank you.

I prefer plenty of water changes when treating for wounds. Do you have a hospital tank?

Thanks for answering Lupin. I have everything I need to set up a hospital tank when ever i need it, extra aged filter, tank and water. But the thing is he got hurt from me trying to catch him and i don't want to risk it again so I figured I would leave him to heal. I will be doing daily water changes on the whole tank as this will be beneficial to all the fish. Should I put in fish vitamins?

Sweet thanks again. Hope he is still ok when I get home from work. He was lookinh ok when I went to bed at 1am.

You can also bump the temp and add salt to the 310gal. BUT, that's a lot of salt. So, go with Lupin's idea and set up a QT tank.

He is currently in a 160gal, so I treated the whole tank with salt and raised the temp. Once healed I will try again to catch him and transfer him to the 310 gal.

Good deal. Hope all turns out good. Best wishes to you.

Thanks Haynchinook334. It has been 24H now and all seems well. Did a 20% water chnge and he ate so I think may worries are over if I keep up the daily water changes for a week or two.
