So my cat got a sparrow but didn't kill it, it is fully feathered and other than a few bite marks and possibly a broken leg (which I put styptic powder on to clot the blood) it doesn't seem to badly injured but he seems a bit traumatized. Can someone tell me what I will need to take care of it until it recovers?
Nevermind, I checked on him a bit after I put the styptic powder on him he was hopping around so I got him on my finger and took him outside and he succesfully flew away
yay!!! good for you i knocked two robbin babies out of a nest last year, cleaning out an old chicken coop i felt so bad found the first one the same day and took it to a wild life rehab place, found the second one cold on the ground the next day, put him in a dish with a towel, and a light bulb near, some soft puppy food on a chop stick and the next day he was up and going! to the wild life place with its sibling ^_^ they called me months later to come down and release them in to the wild.....love helping but still feel bad that it was my fault.
well, it is actually illegal to keep a bird and try and rehab it. The best thing to do is try and find a licensed Rehab facility to bring it to. that way they can properly (and legally) care for it. I wouldn't think that anyone would prosecute you if for keeping one but you know how FWC (or DNR or whatever they call the wildlife officers where you are) can be- they don't mess around...
what a coincidence! i injured a sparrow too!! of course mine was from a pellet fired from a 20ga shotgun, and it didnt make it but a coincedenc non the less
