Anybody use a inline heater with a canister filter ?
I was wondering if I could install 1 on my fx6 or fx5 or would there be to much flow to heat the water ?

I have used in-line haters with canisters, and with sumps.
It is always good to use a check valve below the heater in case power goes out and flow stops, this keeps water in the line, and prevents the heater from going dry and burning out.

Great thank you

I'm not sure about the flow from the Fluval, but I've been running the hydro eth heaters for the past 6 years off a Rena xp3 and they have been fantastic. Burned out the thermostat on the first one after 4 years. Have been using my second one for two years, but this time added a hydor heater controller.

I have a uv installed inline w an fx5. Never tried a heater since the only online heaters I've seen are 5/8" diameter max. I run my fx5s with 1" tubing. You could tee it off to reduce flow. Also, a ball valve or quick disconnects on the heater are very helpful when you need to service it.
