hey guys, looking for some input on this flowerhorn I got as a "red texas" lol I know its a male and a flowerhorn and thats about it so any input would be appreciated. excuse the tank it was bought dirt cheap and used so the glass is etched and just trash but it holds water.

that would be great if it faded red, when he spawns he turns dark blue around the gills and sometimes has almost a purplish hue to his entire body, he's about 4 inches and really aggro at all times, always charges glass and will charge my hand if i mess around in the tank

best news I heard today, I got him as a red texas then reading the petsmart kamfa thread about all the kamfa's labeled as red texas had me believing its a flowerhorn and not rt so i'm very happy to hear it is an rt and perfect if its bp crossed since he's paired up with a bp. thank you

No problem man. The reason for saying he is not a flowerhorn is because he is missing thhe flower spot behind the eye. That is the difference when trying to tell the two apart. Some red texas's are from flowerhorns and will have that spot. Now just because he is a red texas doesn't mean he will fade or show any signs of orange or red. The initial bp/tex cross produces a lot of mixed genes. You said he is paired with a bp... Is he fertile?

yes, I believe he is cause he spawned with her 3 times so far and the last 2 times there where tan eggs with a little black sliver in them a few days later while other eggs turned white right away and through out the coming days but then she ate them again, im watching for the next spawn and will remove the cup since that what i did with my other pair where the female would eat the eggs even tho you can see a large chunk of good eggs

Yeah it sounds like he is fertile. The last female bp I had with my texas never raised 1 spawn. I had 5 spawns with her and had to take the eggs of the spawns I wanted to grow out because she would always eat the wigglers. Some parents just aren't good at raising fry. Good luck with your pair.
