I have been planning on adding a new setup in my house and can not decide what to do. I started planning to do a double stand with 2 - 48 x 18 x 20 ( 75 gallon ) tanks. I am now second guessing maybe doing 4 - 36 x 18 x 16 ( 40 gallon) or a single 72 x 24 x 24 ( 180 gallon) tank. I have the space to do any of the three but it will be my last upgrade untill I kick my kids out and build a fish room (at least 5 years). I realy would like a bigger tank but I like the idea of different tanks for greater diversity sounds good to. I know that no one can decide for me but any thoughts or experiences would be apreciated. Thanks in advance for your input

What do you want to keep??

If you want to keep larger fish I would go with the single 180.

I have no definate plans on what to keep but I have always wanted to get a silver Aro. I thought even a 180 would be a little small for a big Aro. I thought the 75's would have enough room for most bigger fish. I really like Discus and Oscar's but my water is really quite hard my ph is stable at 7.8 - 8.0, so I thought I would stick to african's. Do you think a 180 would ba alright for a silver or maybe an african pike, or maybe some snakeheads And if so would that be all I could put in. Would i have room for more . I don't want to spend all this cash to keep a single fish (yet). Thanks again for you input.

I would go with the 180, that way you can keep your options open for big fish. Even if you decide on smaller fish, you can keep alot more of them.:)

I would also go with the 180. If you want the silver it could live in there for a good amount of time, then you could move him later to a larger tank.

180

Hindsight always seems to point to "I should have gone bigger." :D

If it were me I would get the 180. My rule is always go as big as you can. But you can be creative with where you put your tanks. Where there's a will there's a way. I kept a 65 in a CLOSET for a year.

Thanks for all the input. I should have known monster fish keepers would recomend the monster tank. I think I was asking a question that I already knew the answer for. The 180 was my first choice but I was second guessing myself. I was woried that I was just in love with the idea of a big tank and maybe the smaller multi tank setup would be more versitile and cost effective. I just now have to convince my wife that this is the way to go.

Buy the 180, you can alwys have acrylic dividers built for it to make it like smaller tanks.
