I purchased a "Columbian Black Hook" 2 weeks ago(i guess this is a cousin to the regular Red Hook Silver Dollar).Well he is in a 75 gal.tank with a large reg.Silver Dollar,a 8 inch Oscar,a 8 inch Clown knife, and various Silver Dollars. This "Black Hook" has taken over the tank,he chases everyone from the middle of the tank(including the Oscar and knife)He is totally wacked out!!My O doesnt even come to the front of the tank for feeding anymore,my knife always hides now,i have never seen a Silver Dollar this aggressive before!!his has just started the past 2 weeks,he is about 3 and a half inches, what could be causing this behaviour???

Ive seen some aggressive silver dollars before.. how big are the rest of the fish and how big is the tank they are in?
Are there other silver dollars in the tank? They are a schooling fish, and it's common to experience odd behaviour from schooling or colony fish that are kept by themselves.

Howdy,

You state that you have a large regular silver dollar and various other silver dollars in your tank. However, these may not be substitute enough for the Black Hook to embrace them as his school. As zekni said, schooling fish do not do well alone - at all! This can lead to skittishness or to aggression, as shown here. Schooling fish should be kept in groups of at least 5-7, or they will not do well.

For the sake of all fish in your tank, I suggest to either add more Back Hooks, or to give this specimen to someone who can house a group of them.
