It's definitely worth the extra $25 expense. I had a root canal and crown work done on a molar and it absessed several months later (while I was attending my HS reunion). I missed all but the alumni breakfast and was laid out on antibiotics and pain killers in the hotel. When I returned home, I went to another dentist (mine was on vacation). He shot an x-ray and said he found rust at the tip of a root that caused the absess. Apparently, a file broke while the tooth canal was being cleaned out. The broken file could have been easily IDd with a post-operation x-ray and been taken care of before causing an infection.
Now, I'm going through (for the last 8 days) another infection. An endodontist thinks my earlier infection caused a weakening of the socket and I broke my molar due to loss of support while chewing.
I just want the damn tooth pulled to forgo any further hassles. I'll settle for a permanent bridge later. At least then, there'll be nothing left in the jawbone to get infected. But, I have to wait again since I have a golfball size infection pocket giving me a 103F temp and stopping me from eating (can't open my mouth). Plus, there's the lovely taste from the 3 incisions made in my gums to install the 3 drains currently in them.
Just needed to rant. It was either rant here or go on a 3 state killing spree.
