Hey all, I have just received a 65g and am hoping to make it my new fish tank. The only problem is I'm really stumped as for what to do with it. The dimensions are 36"long by 18"wide by 24"tall. I was originally thinking African Cichlids, but I'm open for anything. If possible I'd like to know of a fish that would be cool for a species tank, or even a specimen tank. Thanks for any opinions or advice you have to share.;)

If it were mine, I'd go with a Discus setup; run 6 fish strong and lightly plant with a large driftwood piece. ;)

I would stick with the Africans but get them when they are colored up because it's very disappointing to wait for them to color up and grow, do a peacock mbuna tank lightly planted with rocks and driftwood. But if you want to drop around $150 you could go with a school of 6 roseline sharks, in a heavily planted tank with a school of 20 neon/cardinal or rummy nose tetras, that is always a very pleasing and interesting set up with very beautfull shimmering colors of blue, red and yellow. You could also do angelfish or discus. If your thinking more against the aggressive fish side you could do a salvini.

With that depth to length ratio either planted or African with lots of rock has a lot of potential. Personally I'd go African, mostly because I've never kept them.

If you wanna do africans do a nice lace rock set up with whtie sand, it gives it a beautiful salt water look

+2 on the white sand GOTTA have white sand, i didnt do white sand because my 60g was a surprise gift....had a dream that i got a nice tank and honestly i woke up and found the stand and the tank in the living room. but because it was such a surprise i forgot to get sand and got BLUE yes BLUE gravel instead of white sand and i still kick myself in the butt
