Hey guys, I'm starting to get really frustrated with my 120 gallon. The water is crystal clear and parameters seem fine. The ammonia is a little high at 0.25ppm, but I don't think it could be the cause of my problems. Its seems that any fish I put into the tank cannot last more than an hour. The problem first showed up when newly introduced fish would get cloudy eyes, and rapidly deteriorating fins. They would be dead in a couple hours. I tried to fix the problem with water changes, but when I added three giant danios today, they were dead within an hour. There were no physical signs of disease. They began swimming near the surface, and then they started swimming upside down and twitching. I tried to move them but it was in vain. Does anyone have a clue what's going on in my tank?

it looks as it has not cycled...ammonia is killing them....

what is your water's pH?

I really hope that its only ammonia. Can 0.25 ppm be that deadly though, especially to hardy species like Danios. Maybe its nitrogen poisoning? I'll check the PH right now.

Gasping at the surface could mean many things, any more info?

Your low PH actually reduces ammonia toxicity....It would make more sense to me if you had high PH

maybe you dont have proper aeration?

Did you put any water conditioner in? Chlorine will disappear from tap water with time and aeration. However, chloramines are the big killers. Chloramines do not disappear and only water conditioner will remove it. Hope this helps, The Doctor.

Any water you add to your tank should be dechlorinated. It sounds like the tank has not fully cycled yet. If you are exaggerating the death clock (!!) , I would blame the ammonia. If not, then you may have something else going on there.
