I live in a co-op apt and ive been having nightmares lately of my 180 shattering or just leaking out when nobody's home. I want to get renters insurance to ease my fears. Does anyone have renters insurance that covers damage from large aquariums and how much is it a month. Any stipulations with the insurance

Insurance should cover tank leaks as long as it covers water damage. Not sure what the stipulations on renters insurance would be but when I spoke with my agent he said my normal home insurance that covered water damage would also cover something like my tank leaking.

You would probably have to add a rider to your renter's insurance policy to cover aquariums and damage that might occur. Renter's insurance is relative cheap and so would the rider.

Ironic. I just a thread of a guys 220 busting. Its kinda scary. Im considering out of the hobby i have 2 small kids and a 150 in my livingroom 4th floor apt. Im concerned about my kids ages 2 and 4 god forbid being near the tank if this ever happened and then being sued by the building and neighbors below me for water damage. Maybe if i get a house and with a basement or garage i would be more at ease but im very leary now

I hear you but what is it 1 in 100,000 or 1 in 1,000,000 the odds are tiny. You have to take risks in life.

At the same time you have kids and they come before everything.

Yeah I got into a heated discussion with my coworkers and in the end, "Mind your own damn Business".

After 911 everyone was deathly afraid of riding airplanes but more people die everyday from smoking cigarettes, drunk driving (victim/driver both), heart disease and cancer. More people die on their way to work. More family members, including kids light their own homes on fire and killing more people.

If you are still worried, don't forget to bubblewrap your kids before they go out, and the air and water we consume all have trace amounts of arsenic that will kill us in years to come.

Ya'all really need to verify the details for which a policy covers "water damage". There can be eliminators within the exact causal origin of water damage. For example: home gets flooded because a plumbing part BROKE (inside a toilet, washing machine hookup hose popped open) then damages are covered.
The same damage, not covered if the flooding is not related to any home plumbing breakage. such as, ooohhh I dunno- say you fall asleep while tank is refilling during water change... or sump overflows.
Renters policy is 'generally' easier to obtain than homeowners, being secondary.

Water damage gets expensive real quick, and the new mold stories are upping the ante.
